Award celebrates the highest standards of achievement in the development industry across North America.
TORONTO (July 24, 2024) — Tricon Residential’s Maple House at Canary Landing has been selected as a winner of the prestigious Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) 2024 Americas Awards for Excellence. The award is the highest honour in the built environment and celebrates outstanding new developments across the Americas from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Maple House was selected as one of only ten winners from an extraordinarily competitive pool, and the only project in Canada to be selected. Maple House will now contend for global recognition in the 2024 ULI Global Awards for Excellence against top projects from Europe and Asia Pacific.
Heralded by the Canada national newspaper, The Globe and Mail, as “Toronto’s finest apartment buildings in a generation,” Maple House at Canary Landing is the inaugural phase of Canada’s largest and most ambitious residential development. This twelve-acre, 2,500-unit, purpose-built rental community transforms a once-industrial site into a vibrant community hub, prioritizing sustainability, affordability, and inclusivity. Designed by the acclaimed Danish architecture firm COBE, in partnership with Toronto’s architectsAlliance, Maple House is a mixed-use development featuring thoughtfully designed residential spaces alongside a revitalized public realm. The new plaza boasts pedestrian paths, vibrant local stores, cafés, and restaurants, fostering a dynamic and engaging community atmosphere.
Maple House offers 770 rental apartments, 30% of which have been designated as affordable units. This innovative community employs a unique “checkerboard” approach, integrating market and affordable units—both finished to the same high standards—throughout the building. Maple House serves as a socioeconomic catalyst in the heart of Toronto, and has been designed to foster connections and community for all residents. The 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenity spaces include a state-of-the-art gym, an outdoor pool with breathtaking city views, co-working spaces, kids playroom, music recording studio, and a dog spa. These programmed areas are joined by multiple outdoor terraces for al fresco dining and activated with events that cultivate a true sense of community.
“Maple House is one of the world’s finest examples of city building. The Tricon team, partnering with all three levels of government, conceptualized and delivered an innovative first-to-market integrated housing community that has made Toronto a more livable and thriving city” said Andrew Joyner, Managing Director and Head of Multi-Family at Tricon. “This award is a testament to the sense of purpose and hard work of numerous Tricon team members who have redefined our skyline and made a positive and lasting impact in our community.”
